Poet, Graphic designer, and Editor — creating, preserving, and building for the next generation.
Anis Mostafa is a Rohingya poet, designer, community interpreter, cultural advocate, and the founder of Zuban, a literary and publishing platform created to give Rohingya voices a place to be heard, read, and remembered. His work brings together literature, language, culture, and community, with a particular interest in preserving the Rohingya language while creating opportunities for new writers and storytellers to emerge.
Anis was born in Phaung Daw Pying, Buthidaung, Arakan (Rakhine). As a child, he was forced to leave his homeland with his family because of persecution and violence against the Rohingya. He spent several years in refugee camps in Bangladesh, where he continued his education in Bangladeshi schools. In 2025, he resettled in Canada and began a new chapter of his life while continuing his studies and cultural work.
For Anis, much of his work is deeply connected to where he comes from. Poetry, language, design, and cultural work have become ways of holding on to memories, stories, and a sense of belonging that displacement can make difficult to preserve. He is particularly interested in the Rohingya language—not only as something to protect, but as something that can grow, be written, and become a living part of the future.
